The diagnosis is in: I’m a certified lobby lover.
Some may say the days of the Hotel Lobby are done - these spots (and I) beg to differ. To me, the lobby (when done well) is the heartstrings, the clubhouse, the center of it all. The difference in a hotel and homestay for me is rooted in the lobby, the front desk staff and the ability to call down when I inevitably forget my toothbrush and need to ask for one.
Design enthusiast or not, here are a few of my favorite lobbies worth a little time lingering
If you like Jonathan Adler this is a lobby for you. If you like rose…. this is also a lobby for you. It’s not a big space but every corner is done to perfection. Nothing in here feels like a lobby- it reads much more like a poolside bar and one you want to spend some serious time in.
Tucked off Wilshire in an unsuspecting part of Santa Monica, the proper stands TALLLLLLLLLLL. She’s regal, she’s eclectic, she’s chic, she’s the perfect stop for a cocktail as a guest or passerby.
A reformed nudist hotel - stay with me - this spot is an absolute gem. The lobby feels more like your cool, single aunts house complete with piano, quirky books and a picnic basket breakfast in the mornings.
Our moody bestie lives and breathes for the Hotel Van Zandt lobby. It’s pretty massive and has cute little sitting areas around. My favorite, pictured below is the fireplace encased with two built in wood stacking shelves. The cafe is steps away so grab a coffee and take advantage of the wifi before you mosey up to the pool deck
Back on my Palm Springs bullshit but this one is too good to ignore. I’ve never stayed at the property but I’ve sat in the lobby for drinks and dined at Norma's countless times. The lobby is actually quite small but houses all of the vibezzzzz we want and need
Aptly named after it’s address, Zero George is truly a luxury boutique property. The lobby is teeny tiny and boasts an indoor-outdoor configuration. Haven’t been since pre-C**** times but this spot is the so unique. It’s like a classy pencil skirt/blouse situation but you know there are tattoos underneath. She politely whispers classy while holding a dirty martini- if you don’t get that visual I honestly don’t know if we can be friends.
