Ocean Beach is so low-key cool and feels like what folks envision when they think of San Diego. Surfers walking the streets barefoot, little beach bungalows lining the streets, and palm trees lining the waterfront. It is clearly a more 'local' neighbor and doesn't have as many fancy or tourist spots. We loved it! Here are some of our favorite spots after calling Ocean Beach in San Diego home for a bit in 2021.
If you're going for noodles or ramen, try to eat at the restaurant. It is just so much better and how it should be enjoyed. Otherwise fab for takeout!
A must if you do or don't have a dog with you. Watching surfers while dogs live their best life as the sun goes down... NOTHING BETTER!
The burritos are huge and delicious even though they are only $6. So good and a classic SoCal taco shop. We went multiple times a week!
Wednesday night staple on the main strip in OB! Locals favorite for fresh produce, a fun meal out, and find new local vendors.
The BURGERS! Legendary burger spot that no one regrets stopping at unless you're counting calories. But calories don't count in Ocean Beach :)
Went everyday while in San Diego. No joke. The baristas remembered our order and dog pretty quickly and would always have a dog treat waiting. The coffee is great as well as the acai bowls. They always seem open, so we were always there :)
Hawaiian poke, so it is focused on the fresh fish and not all the sauces and 'extras' that quickly make a poke bowl a production. Very fresh and good prices.
Technically in Sunset Cliffs area but so close to OB too! Great for breakfast before enjoying the beach or a lot of pick up options to head to the beach with.
Loved going there for a working lunch on the patio or for weekend brunch. But honestly, Cesarina is always a good idea!
Head there at sunset to catch HH on their rooftop. The Drunk in Love and California Love cocktails are 10/10.
A grassy knoll along the beachfront that typically has vendors and live music. It gets really lively on weekends!
I work in tech by day and currently enjoy working from anywhere all over the US with my husband and dog, Paisley. Presently we're in Austin on a mission to try every taco and margarita in town.
