Off the Beaten Path: A Weekend with Kids in New Orleans

Heading to New Orleans with the whole fam? Be sure to check out some of these great family-friendly spots!

Some tips: I love New Orleans, but we don't linger outside after dark. We typically Uber or drive where we're going - and then after dinner - go back to the hotel. I would suggest finding a hotel with a pool if possible so the kids have something great to do in the evening if you're early diners!

FRIDAY NIGHT:

We always try to squeeze five meals out of any weekend in New Orleans and the first up is dinner upon arrival Friday evening. I love to visit Domenica if your kids are ready for a nice restaurant that's still loud, so not too distracting to have your kids. If you'd rather avoid the nicer place - check out Vals for a great patio vibe or Cochon Butcher for a delicious cured meat spot.

SATURDAY:

District Donuts has a laid back atmosphere that's great for kids. It offers delicious pastries but also heartier food options, and very good coffee! If you're looking for something different than the Zoo or Aquarium (which are great choices) check out the Playgrounds at Audubon Park. The Walnut Street location is really great and very local. Once they've burned through the donut energy, grab a burger or chicken sandwich at Toup's Meatery in Mid-City. Swing by Hansen's for a SnoBall for dessert. They have unique flavors that the adults will love but also the classics! For afternoon brews, try out Miel Brewery & Taproom. They're kid friendly with games and have delicious brew. For dinner, I think you have a choice: better food and kid-friendly, or kid-friendly atmosphere. If it's the latter, try out Reginelli's for a make your own pizza experience or Dat Dog; both of them have a few locations in the city. If you're more into an adult place that is welcoming to children, Picnic Provisions & Whiskey is great for a low key dinner. Kid and pet friendly but with nice cocktails!
