What To Do on a Rainy Sunday Afternoon in NYC

New Yorkers may come out in droves when we get beautiful weather (and in contrast, I’m guilty of wanting to stay in my apartment anytime the weather isn’t perfect), but here is how I spent an afternoon in NYC on a day I wasn’t so lucky with the weather.

First, I booked the Custom Candle Experience for my group at the Lanterne Candle Lab in Chinatown, NYC at 2pm.

It’s a relatively new candle pouring experience where you can pick your own candle vessel, mix your own scent with their fragrance oils, and then decorate your candle with flowers to your own liking. The studio is decorated beautifully with a calming energy, and I loved the options for personalization they provided. I also used this as a surprise birthday gift for a friend!

It’s around $40-50 per person for the experience, and you can pre-book your slot on their website linked in their instagram profile: @lanternelab

For my candle, I picked a blue iridescent vessel and mixed the scent to be Martinis: mostly espresso, slightly lychee.  The coffee scent makes my entire apartment smell like a coffee shop and the lychee adds a little bit of sweetness to the scent - it’s my absolute favorite candle scent I’ve ever tried.

Next, I booked a reservation for a late brunch at the Tyger at 3:15pm (1h15 after my candle experience time), which is a few minutes walk away from Lanterne Lab. This left us a little extra time so we didn’t feel rushed during the experience. The Tyger has unique dishes and cocktails, and it was decorated like a jungle/garden ( perfect for the rainy weather, I’ll add). Ask for booth seating indoors!

After we were done with our meal, it was perfect timing to go back and pick up our candles after they finished cooling down. I believe they also offer shipping if you are unable to pick yours up.

After picking them up, we walked over to the intersection of Doyers Street and Pell Street to the vibrant colored street mural which is a must-see if you’re in the area!

Whether you’re doing this on a rainy or sunny day, it’s the perfect relaxing afternoon where you get to customize something to bring home and help you relax even more! Lanterne Lab is my go-to recommendation for anyone looking to try something new in NYC.

Happy Traveling!
